SYNOPSIS

Indigenous varieties of sorghum and millets, and diverse cuisine, interlaced with the traditional practice of farming come alive in “Jowar Gatha” (The Jowar Ballad).

While farmers lament the decline of Jowar (sorghum) and millets due to changing cropping patterns in the drylands of Central India, rich traditions of life around these crops manifest through traces of songs, rituals and stories.

The elders reiterate that new agricultural cropping patterns have come at the cost of not only the disappearing of some of the traditional crop varieties but also with a risk to health and the quantum of harvest.

SYNOPSIS

The film is set in current-day Chennai, in a world where the divide between rich and poor is vast, greed, betrayal, and crime roam free, and every individual carries with him/her the psychological stress of the lives they’ve lived so far.

A middle-aged man Masilamani, a security guard at a popular sports and recreation club, is being questioned as a murder suspect while his terminally ill young son waits outside the investigation room.

Throughout the film, he is the only actor seen on screen, while other characters are the only voices that interact with him.

Masilamani, an eccentric and emotional wreck, talks in riddles, back and forth, provoked by visual or audio stimuli in the physical space around him.

His strange tale with moments of unexpected comedy and sudden displays of wit leaves us questioning who is he, what has he done and if he deserves the punishment that is staring him in the face.

Finding a new way of hope, she decides to give back to the forces that pushed her to live an orphaned life of humiliation and misery. Shot in various regions spread across Kerala and Tamil Nadu, the movie captures the essence of life from a conservative, religious and rural background. SYNOPSIS

Inspiration for the film came to me from the plant Angel’s Trumpet (Brugmansia). One of its many breeds can be pollinated solely by a very long billed hummingbird. Only this bird is able to reach the core of the blossom and drink the flower’s nectar. It took millions of years of evolution to develop such cooperation between the bird and the plant. I was amazed by this interesting synergy and I played with the idea of imagining what could be the next step in the evolution of hummingbirds.
